wedding 41482

At ChristChurch we love celebrating the gift of marriage and happily give time, help, and support to enable couples to plan and prepare for their life together as husband and wife.

A wedding is one of life's great moments, based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between a man and a women, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses. Marriage is intended to be a creative relationship that is life long where husband and wife grow together in love and trust and are united with one another in heart, body and mind.

Some general information that you may find useful:

Banns of Marriage

This is a public announcement of your intended marriage. The banns are 'published' by being read aloud during the service on three successive Sundays preceding the ceremony. The congregation is invited to register objections if they have any. It is usual for the couple to be in attendance on at least one of the three occasions when the banns are read.

Banns need to be published at least three months before your wedding date and are valid for 3 months.

You are legally entitled to get married at Christ Church if you live within the parish and have never been married before. If one partner lives outside the parish boundaries, then banns also need to be read at his / her parish church.  Click here or contact the office to find out if you live in our parish. There is a cost involved (determined by the Church of England) in the reading of the Banns as well as for the Banns Certificate.

Special / Common License

This license may be required if one or both partners are of foreign nationality. This can be a rather lengthy process and it is imperative that it be started as soon as possible, so as not to interfere with your wedding plans. It is advised that, whoever is from a foreign country, should get written notification from the prospective embassies stating that their marriage in the United Kingdom will be recognized in their country. There is also a cost involved in this process.

Marriage Preparation
Marriage preparation will help you develop the strong foundations for a long and happy life together. For this reason, if you choose to marry at Christ Church we expect you to undertake our marriage preparation course.
Marriage preparation is also available to all from ChristChurch who are planning to get married even if it is to take place in another part of the country or abroad. It is also open to those who are from other churches and who may not be regular churchgoers. Please contact the Office for more details.

Wedding fees are determined by The Church of England and vary from year to year. The Parish Administrator or clergy will have more information in this regard. We request a £50.00 non-refundable deposit on booking your wedding to cover administration costs.
There is a team of ladies who do the flowers at Christ Church. There is a charge of £50.00 per pedestal and should you require anything extra, a further cost will be involved. Please note that the ladies who do the flower arrangements are not professional, but their work is of a very high standard.

Alternatively, you may make your own arrangements.

Catering Facilities / Reception Venue
ChristChurch has a number of rooms that can be used for a small reception, if required. The  Gallery is probably the best room and can seat up to 75.  Conferencing@ChristChurch is also able to provide refreshments (depending on your requirements).

If you would like to find out more information please contact the church office.
